Birthday Girls have created a riotously enjoyable mixture of comedy show and night out for their Late-Night Comedy Party. Handing out shots as the audience file in, they set a friendly mood that you instantly warm to, setting the tone for a hurtlingly lively night of stand-up and sketch.
With different guests on each night, brought in from around the Fringe, we’re treated to performances from Lazy Susan, Lou Sanders, Suzi Ruffell and Dan Cook. The Girls are vibrantly energetic hosts, relentlessly hyping up the audience for the next act with dance breaks and sketches. Their skits are a well-crafted mix of referential comedy and totally absurd imaginings, for example babysitting a crazed Jamie Oliver.
Most of the acts complemented the Birthday Girls’ brand of comedy – balancing between bonkers humour and spot-on irony. Lazy Susan and Lou Sanders stand out particularly –Susan with a double act that was carefully and hilariously awkward and dry, and Lou Sanders with a brilliantly funny set that was affably slapdash, incorporating well-placed audience participation.
Birthday Girls will leave you in a bouncing good mood after an hour and a half of comedy that will test even the greatest lung capacity.
