Julie Peakman is an author of various books and a frequent contributor to journals, magazines and television documentaries.
She started life in the theatre as an actress, also working in film and TV before moving into writing. She is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and mainly writes about feminism, gender, history of sexuality and culture. Her books among others include ‘Libertine London. Sex in the Eighteenth-Century Metropolis’ and ‘Licentious Worlds. Sex & Exploitation in Global Empires'. She is currently writing a musical based on her biography of Peg Plunket, C19th Dublin brothel-keeper.
